The Pilkington Planarä System
Unrivalled Performance for Over 35 Years
Pilkington Planarä structural glass systems have a proven track record in the most demanding applications. Architects can create roofs, canopies, soaring facades or even clad entire buildings in glass. Pilkington Planarä creates environments with more light and a greater feeling of space.
Various support structures, whether external or internal, subtle or dominant, can easily be combined with Pilkington Planar. They can be made with glass mullions, various conventional steel pipe designs or Pilkington Planar tension structures.
Structural glass projects are always based on the performance, strengths and tolerances of the glass. The properties of the face glass are critical to the type and size of the structure behind the glass. The combined experience of one of the oldest and largest glassmakers in the world along with one of the largest glaziers in the United States assures a safe and successful result!
Manufacturer
Pilkington Planar is exclusively made by Pilkington, the world
leader in glass manufacturing for over 150 years. Sophisticated research
and development is supported by an ongoing, rigorous testing program.
Product quality is assured by the exclusive use of Pilkington Optifloatä
glass with fabrication and design done in an ISO 9000 certified factory
in the UK.
Pilkington Architectural is the only manufacturing facility in the world dedicated solely to the production of structural glass systems!
Route to Market
The system is sold in the North American market only by W&W Glass
Systems, Inc. W&W has almost two decades of experience designing,
engineering and erecting structural glass systems and is the accredited
designer, installer and sole distributor of the Pilkington Planar
System.
The system is sold only through the top glass and glazing companies throughout the United States. All projects are supervised on site by an experienced W&W field supervisor to assure that the quality of the installation is equal to the quality of the product.
Together, the two companies and the chosen installer represent a level of experience and a proven track record that is unequalled.
Once installed, the materials are covered by the Pilkington Twelve Year Limited Design and Material Warranty.
Further Advantages of Pilkington Planarä
1. Pilkington Planar components are never sold as hardware or glass only. Pilkington Planar is a fully engineered product which delivers a total sole source system with sole design responsibility taken by Pilkington and W&W.
2. Tempered Optifloatä is produced with an average peak to valley rollerwave of 0.05mm. This is over 50% flatter than normal tempered glass, virtually eliminating the rippling effect commonly seen in tempered glass.
3. Pilkington Planar is manufactured in a facility certified to the standards of ISO 9000. The factory is dedicated only to the production of the Pilkington Planar system, adding to the superior quality and dependability.
4. Tempered Pilkington Optifloatä
is heat soaked to the more stringent European DIN standard. This
is the best defense possible against spontaneous nickel sulfide breakage.
Pilkington exclusively guarantees their glass for twelve years against
nickel sulfide breakage.
5. Laminated units use a cast-in-place liquid resin in lieu of typical PVB interlayer. The CIP eliminates the problems that commonly occur when silicones contact PVB and allows us to have glass edges exposed to the weather.
6. All fittings are solid 316-grade stainless steel. Other alloys may be used in certain environmental conditions. 304 stainless steel covers over mild steel are not permitted.
Pilkington Planarä - Most Tested.
Most Trusted.
The testing of Pilkington Planar is ongoing, as new projects demand
higher performance. All custom applications are researched, developed
and tested before they are allowed into service.
Pilkington give you the reassurance of over 35 years of testing
and development.
Pilkington Planar can be tested by Research and Development or by an independent agency at your request. Recently, Pilkington successfully passed rigorous test requirements for the Rose Center Museum for Earth and Space at the American Museum of Natural History in New York and the Imperial Bank Tower in Costa Mesa, California.
Pilkington has tested for everything from bomb blast loading to seismic performance and we can test as required to prove Pilkington Planar can meet the most stringent specifications.
Over 35 years of testing has allowed Pilkington to develop a Code of
Practice for Structural Glass Facades. This knowledge allows us to give
each project a TWELVE YEAR LIMITED DESIGN AND MATERIALS WARRANTY, and
gives total confidence in the system's ability to meet and exceed the project's
requirements. The warranty and all design data can only be applied
to Pilkington approved materials.
