Cushion Tiles provide protection against slips and falls on wet floors by raising the foot traffic plane above the slippery surface of the supporting floor. The "open waffle grid" design, combined with the well spaced supporting feet, provides maximum drainage of fluids, facilitates frequent cleaning to maintain sanitary requirements and allows air circulation to keep floor and tiles dry. Dry floors and tiles help retard odor build-up and the spread of infectious mold, mildew and bacteria. Turtle Tiles help prevent tripping. The inherent flexibility of our vinyl material combined with strong interlocking tabs, allows a Turtle Tile mat to "drape" over uneven, cracked floors making a uniform, smooth, and safe walking surface. Turtle Tiles will conform to the most uneven of surfaces and can even conform to a dirt or pebbled surface Turtle Tiles have good resistance to oils, solvents, acids and many other chemicals. Solid Tiles are made in the same modular sizes as our other tiles, use the same interlocking tabs and can be placed into the overall Turtle Tile mat if desired to meet special abuse requirements or to enhance the overall design. Static Dissipative tiles are 12" x 12" x 3/4" in open grid and solid styles. PVC hardness is 80-90 Durometer. Other physical properties match the standard Cushion Tile. Static Dissipative Tile Resistivity Values: 5.0 x 106 – 109 ohms / sq. in. per ASTM D-257 Standard Turtle Tiles have Resistivity values greater than 5.0 x 1012 ohms / sq. in. per ASTM D-257. ASSEMBLY, INSTALLATION
Turtle Tile mats can also be recessed at entrances and other areas requiring the mat to be flush with the adjacent surface. Turtle Tiles does not supply edge angles to surround the recessed area. Typical details for recessed installations are available by calling our Engineering Department. Turtle Tiles connect using integrally molded tab connections on all four sides of each tile. There are male tabs on two adjacent sides of each tile that mate with corresponding female slots on adjacent sides of each tile. The female slot also incorporates a shear pin for additional strength and separation resistance. Typically the strength of our tab connections is suitable for standard or harsh pedestrian applications and standard wheeled cart traffic. When high strength tile-to-tile connections are needed, as in high abuse areas, where wheeled cart traffic will be present or in assembling large mats, specify stainless steel staples, shot through each tab, parallel to the walking surface. These staples split as they penetrate the tab to lock securely in place and will not come up through the surface. Four recessed screw holes are provided at the corner of each tile to provide positive mechanical attachment to the substrate. This may be required when tow-motors and powered carts are in use or in steep slope situations. If desired, each tab can be "glued" using OTEY brand of PVC cement on 3M matting adhesive at the job site. Cemented Tab connections are essentially permanent. Specify "cement together at job site". Turtle Tiles may be connected to form mats of virtually unlimited size and shape. Mats are typically assembled on site. Large mats can made by shop assembling sub-sections up to 10’ x 20’ for final installation in the field. Turtle Tiles can be easily cut in the field to clear columns, counters, equipment, etc. Use a "finishing" blade on standard sabre, jig, band or table type power saws to make smooth, precise cuts or use a utility knife with a sharp blade for clean precision cuts. All Tiles are furnished standard as integrally colored units. Colors for field Tiles and Tapered Edge Ramps may be freely intermixed to create patterns and color combinations of your own design. Your designs and color selections must be shown clearly on the project drawings to receive an accurate quote. To add this feature to your specification, add the "G" suffix to the product name. Example: "Turtle Tile - G" or part #1212-G is the correct way to specify open grid Cushion-Tile with Grit Top Coating. Show the location and extent of specially coated tiles and edge ramps on the project drawings. "Dura Grit" Slip Resistant Coating: Factory or field applied rubber-chip aggregate one-part polyurethane based slip resistant coating. Cannot be used with "Static and Dissipative" Tiles; works well with all other styles of Turtle Tile or Tapered Edge Ramp. Field applied by roller, brush or spray, Dura Grit forms a 15-20 mil thick coating. Available in 14 colors: Black, Dark Grey, Brick Red, Forest Green, Ocean Blue, Safety Red, Safety Yellow, Safety Orange, Light Grey, White, Tan, Brown, Cream, Sky Blue. Call for color samples. Dura Grit Top coating excels in food service, slaughter house and marine applications. To add this feature to your specification, add the "DG" suffix and the desired color to the product name. Example: "Turtle Tile- DG – Safety Orange" would be the correct way to specify the open grid Cushion-Tile with Dura Grit Coating in Safety Orange Color. Show the location and extent of specially coated tiles and edge ramps on the project drawings including all color patterns. A Chemical Resistance Table is available upon request. It covers hundreds of chemicals and the performance of our Turtle Tile PVC material. We strongly recommend that you contact our Engineering Department for the latest information on specific applications before you specify. Grit Top coated tiles have approximately the same chemical resistance performance as uncoated Turtle Tiles. Contact our Engineering Department for the latest information before you specify. Dura Grit coated tiles are resistant to a more limited range of chemicals than our uncoated or Grit Top coated tiles. A chemical resistance table is available for this coating, contact our Engineering Department for the latest information before you specify. OPERATION, MAINTENANCE
Damaged Turtle Tiles or sections of Tapered Edge Ramps can be replaced one unit or section at a time by simply lifting out the damaged unit and snapping a new unit into the mat or ramp. There is no need to replace the whole mat if only a portion is damaged. For stapled, screw attached or cemented installations, contact Turtle Plastics for specific replacement and repair procedures.
